An A to Z of Team Taylor
Ceri Ann Glen (nee Davis)
Ceri Ann comments on the Taylor Brand:
“I have used Taylors since I was a young girl. I’ve always trusted their products and have won my biggest matches with them in hand.”
Which model(s)/size of Taylor bowls do you enjoy playing with and why?
“I enjoy Taylor Ace and Vector VS. I play with xtreme grip, size four as I feel they give me the nice smooth arc! I enjoy the grip as it makes the bowl feel slimmer and secure in my hand.”
What country/region/club/team do you play for?
Have previously represented Wales and Australia (and Scotland in WBT).
Live in Scotland and play in Kirkliston outdoor and West Lothian indoor.
Affiliate and play for Cardiff Indoor and Wales.
When and why did you start playing bowls?
Started rolling carpet bowls as a toddler and competing when I was eight years old in South Wales (1987). My family all played and grew up around the game so it is a big part of my identity.
Are there any particular stories/incidents you would like to tell us about that relate to your bowling?
My first cap for Wales was in 1991 when as a 12-year-old I was expected to wear court shoes and handbag around the green and a bowler hat when I played, which kept covering my eyes! Thankfully the sport has moved on.
I remember going camping with my U25 Welsh teammates in Tenby and getting swept down the hill in a mudslide once. I once climbed down the Ivy trellis of a hotel in Llandrindod Wells, to sneak out to hustle on the pool table.
My first ever match for Australia was against Wales and my first ever bowl was to take out a bowl for 6. Yowch- Sorry Wales!
In the bowling world who do you most admire and why?
I can’t pick one.
My grandpa spent hours with me showing me how to read a head and play shots. I admired his devotion to helping his granddaughter play a more aggressive game at a time when that wasn’t the norm.
Linda Evans was my pairs partner for years, her devotion to club, county and country in Wales was immense.
And Norman Carmichael my coach in Tweed heads, Australia I admired greatly for his ability to make everyone he coached feel so unique, and seen.
