An A to Z of Team Taylor
Born in 1973 in Lisburn, N Ireland, Jonathan took up short mat bowling at the age of 14, after watching fellow Irish bowlers playing on TV. At that time he enjoyed playing all sports.
Former Irish national, international, British and World Champion, Jonathan opted to leave his homeland and settle just across the water in Scotland, making a life for himself in Paisley where he was employed by the Coates Threads Company for a number of years.
He has established himself as a successful member for his Paisley Indoor Club and at his outdoor facility at Priorscroft, bringing home the silverware from Northfield as the national singles champion beating Alex Marshall's brother Robert in the final. Northfield could be termed his "happy hunting ground" Along with his Northern Ireland counterparts, he celebrated gold against Australia at the world championships in 2004. Hong Kong is another successful venue for the likeable Irish rogue. Along with Noel Graham they claimed the famous Hong Kong Classic pairs on three occasions and only a few years missed out on the World Champion of Champions title to Jersey's Tommy Greechan - incidentally both Tommy and Jonathan used different models of Taylor bowls on the tricky greens at the KBGC and Kowlook Cricket Club greens that carried them to success. Jonathan is a member of Scotland's Elite squad and has the unique distinction of representing both Northern Ireland and Scotland at international level both indoors and out. He had been a solid member for a good number of years in the top 16 players on the WBT Ranking list who gain automatic entry into all WBT events and after being forced to miss out on a few ranking events in recent years for a variety of reasons, has still managed to retain his position within that elite group. His highest World Indoor Ranking was 9th in 2014. Jonathan has also achieved 35 Irish Caps and 12 Scottish. In 2011 he won Renfrewshire Personality of the Year and at the WBT Indoor World Event in 2014 he won an award of getting 'Four Touchers" in one end!
